Winnie the Pooh for rated 18+!

Following recent scrutiny by Malaysia’s Film Censorship Board (LPF), the dark version of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, which sparked heated discussions online, has been rated as 18+ due to its abundance of gruesome and violent scenes. Surprisingly, despite no cuts being made, this approval has once again stirred netizen’s discussions about the film’s release.

Local renowned film distributor, Mega Films Distribution, announced last week that it has pulled out all the stops to bring this edge-of-your-seat thriller to Malaysian screens. The film, which became a global sensation last year due to its dark take on classic childhood cartoons, is set to premiere ahead of neighbouring countries, including Singapore and Thailand; and local fans are keen to know if it will still be shown in its original form after passing the local censorship authority.

Winner The Poor

To address such concerns, the distributor recently confirmed through the local largest cinema chains – GSC and TGV, that the movie will indeed be released completely uncut nationwide – a rare treat for audiences craving unfiltered suspense and intrigue! And this announcement has received enthusiastic responses from cinema-goers across social media.

However, with pulse-pounding action and heart-stopping suspense around every corner throughout the movie, Mega Films Distribution, for the first time ever, has provided a warning prior to the movie’s release, emphasizing its disturbing content. In a digital post, the distributor urges certain audiences, including “pregnant women, individuals with heart conditions, those easily disturbed, and those with health issues,” to watch at their own risk. This indicates that the horror scenes in the film are expected to reach new heights! But that hasn’t stopped fans from eagerly anticipating its release!

Since its first instalment in last year, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, the movie has remained a hot topic, tarnishing the childhood memories of many. Earlier, it was reported that the movie was cancelled in Hong Kong due to political considerations, sparking discussions even before its premiere. Despite its online popularity and social buzz, local distributors were initially hesitant to bring the movie to Malaysia.

In this sequel, the bloodthirsty version of Winnie the Pooh, along with other iconic and beloved friends such as Piglet and Tigger, venture out of the Hundred Acre Wood once again to seek revenge for their escape in the first instalment! The movie also pays homage to several classic horror films at the same time, including It, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and Happy Death Day, greatly intensifying the horror factor!

The film premiered in North America a few weeks ago and has surprisingly received a 100% freshness rating on the well-known movie-rating website – Rotten Tomatoes! Following its release, it maintained an impressive 88% freshness rating, with many critics praising its performance far beyond expectations. It’s noted for its significant improvement over the previous instalment, earning widespread acclaim!

Since the local announcement of the film’s release, Malaysian netizens have been creating a buzz with memes and parodies of the controversial dark version of Winnie the Pooh. Many have crafted diverse memes with a local twist, adding extra spice to the movie’s already sensational topic!

The highly anticipated dark edition of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is set to haunt screens across Malaysia this Wednesday (April 10th) in nearly 90 cinemas nationwide! For more updates on the movie, stay tuned to Mega Films Distribution’s official fan page:
